The programme leads to an award of a BSc Degree in Accounting.
Accounting focuses on methods to create, maintain and audit a detailed and accurate system that displays the finances of a business or organisation.
The undergraduate programme in the department leads to an award of BSc Degree in Accounting.
The progamme structure requires a student to complete an average of 180 credit units in a minimum of three or four years.
The programme aims at producing high level accounting personnel that can contribute to the development of accounting practice. With this set objectives, the students are required to do certain general studies with their counterparts in other departments from 100 level to 200 level while focusing on departmental courses from 300 level to 400 level.
The Department of Accounting came into existence on November 22, 2016 with the approval of National Universities Commission (NUC) to run fifteen (15) programmes in Clifford University. It is one of the departments in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences under Prof. Gabriel Okwandu as the Dean of the Faculty. Prof. J. U. Ihendinihu is one of the adjunct Professors in Accounting, while Mr. F. I. Joseph was the designated interim Head of Department at inception when Prof N.C. Nwezeaku was pioneer Dean. Currently, the department has an acting Head of Department in the person of Dr Fineboy Ikechi Joseph.
The Department of Accounting in Clifford University prepares the students for employment in any sector of the economy where finance and financial resources are utilized in addition to the capacity for self-employment and professional public practice. The students are trained to have practical and professional expertise that can avail them the opportunity of getting employed in both private and public sectors as well as industries and financial institutions. Most importantly the training they receive will enable them pass the relevant professional examinations in accounting and be qualified to set up practicing firms which they can manage and as well as get other people employed.

To develop into a world class centre of excellence for teaching, learning and research-based education in accounting and financial management for the purpose of enhancing the growth and development of the Nigerian economy in particular and the world at large. This vision is driven by the present global technological changes and the need for adequate communication of accounting information using the available modern scientific tools. The department looks forward to producing highly qualified accountants whose professionalism, technical competence and ethical practices will be reckoned with in all the industries, financial institutions, public and private sectors within and outside the country.

The Department aims at inculcating in students the moral values, independence and objectivity required to serve successfully in organizations and in public practice.
The philosophy of the Department of Accounting, Clifford University is to ensure the utilization of highly trained, qualified and motivated academics and cutting edge technology to produce Finance Technocrats who are self-reliant and possess the required technical and technological capacities to compete favorably, and function effectively within a globalized economic and business environment, thereby meeting the challenges of National Development now and in the future.
The department has the belief that training in this discipline will develop the mind; impart both theoretical and practical knowledge on the individual student; develop self-confidence and help to be innovative and independent in information technology based accounting practice.
Specifically, it is a cardinal philosophy of the department to develop a strong teaching, research and technical knowhow relevant to the accounting profession and its practice. We also intend to develop and sustain a quality-driven mechanism for student enrolment and staff recruitment/retention and to integrate the Department into the University initiatives through developing appropriate collaborations, public lectures and publications.
The Department of Accounting in Clifford University aims at imparting specialized knowledge and skills and further developing the spirit of enquiry, leading to the attainment of high level of expertise in all specialized areas of accounting by our students. These objectives are achieved through course work and research in an atmosphere of intellectual independence and individual creativity. Lectures and supervision are carried out by highly experienced and motivated academic staff. The University also makes continuous effort to boost research, provide library, information technology and other necessary facilities.
The specific objectives of B.Sc Accounting Programme of Clifford University are:
i. To provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems related to accounting, financial management, and administration in all industries, commerce, public service and other human organizations.
ii. To equip students with knowledge and skills in decision making; especially the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining and solving problems.
iii. To develop in students, leadership and interpersonal relations skills needed for service in organizations and in management.
iv. To develop the mind and impart theoretical and practical knowledge that will encourage self-reliance in students.
v. To build in students the basic tenets of academic and social principles for a successful career in accounting.
vi. To produce high level graduates that can design accounting systems to suit changing accounting requirements of organizations, contribute to the development of accounting practice and be professionally qualified to practice the profession in Nigeria and abroad.
vii. To produce a flow of graduates capable of contributing to the development of Nigeria and the global community within the framework of programme guidelines of the National Universities Commission, professional accountancy bodies and the changing need of the industry.
