Information technology is a broad term that involves the use of technology to communicate, transfer data and process information.
The undergraduate programme in the department leads to an award of BSc Degree in Information Technology .
The progamme structure requires a student to complete an average of 180 credit units in a minimum of three or four years.
VISION
The Programme is a drive in producing graduates who can make informed contributions to scientific, technological, economic and social issues in a globalized environment. Thus, the various research clusters in the Programme are involved in research geared toward the attainment of both Visions of the University and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
MISSION
The goal of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (IT) program is to prepare students for successful careers as IT professionals and to make a positive contribution to society. This will enhance the lives of our graduates and will also serve the needs of our constituents who employ our interns and graduates. We do so in full cognizance of Clifford University’s aims to promote talent and economic development to enhance the quality of life by developing IT professionals. At the same time, we hope to give the students an enjoyable learning experience, enhanced by innovative academic approaches and hands-on experiential activities in computing that will prepare graduates to make a global impact through their careers in IT.
The Philosophy of Information Technology is to contribute to the development of our nation in the world of Information and Communication Technology and Engineering Research. The Information Technology Programme at Clifford University, therefore, seeks to engage in progressive research and to involve our society in the new age of pervasive computing. The programme also seeks to produce tomorrow’s leaders in education, industry, research, and public policy. Its goal is not limited to producing armies of IT professionals, but to creating leaders who will shape the future of society positively for emerging computing technologies. The graduates in Information Technology need to be proficient not just in IT research but they need to be creative out-of-the-box thinkers. They need to communicate effectively; have interdisciplinary skills, an ability to work with others and the need to act socially responsibly.
Upon graduation, students with a B.Sc. in Information Technology will be able to:
1. Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
6. Identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, integration, evaluation, and administration of computing-based systems.
